Bathroom Remodel Projects
Spruance Street
Spruance Street
On this project, the Client had a home built in the late '70s. A good size for a Master Bathroom but you would not know it because of the wall which separated the shower and toilet from the double vanity area. The entrance to the bathroom was open and contained no doorway. The only doorway was for the wall which split the room in two.
The vanities were configured in an "L" pattern with mirrors covering each part of the wall. Above the vanities were soffits with fluorescent lights. The client despised the lights along with the low hanging soffit. In the ceiling above the shower and vanities were skylights with frosted glass. In the shower area, the original shower also doubled as a tub. It was narrow and had abrupt angles with a high wall to step over for ingress/egress.
The first thing to change was the shower. We lowered the curbing (entrance) and widened the existing area. Frameless glass walls and door were used for the entrance. On the left of the shower, a built-in cabinet was installed to make for extra storage space. Overhead a recessed can light, LED, was installed along with a exhaust fan with light.
The wall which separated the vanity and shower/toilet area was removed. In its place, a pony wall (half wall) was built to block the view of the toilet from the vanity. In addition, it provided a distinction between the two areas. For the vanity area, only one was installed with two sinks in the cabinet. On the opposite wall, a built-in corner cabinet was made to gain extra storage space due to the loss of one vanity. Above the corner cabinet we installed another recessed can light, LED. This provided light for the back part of the bathroom and new, surface mount lights were used above the vanity. The wall of mirror was gone, replaced by a framed mirror made of the same wood as the cabinets. The wood used for the cabinets was maple, stained a Brazilian Cherry color.
For the tile, the Client choose Crema Marfil marble in a 12 x 12" size. An accent border was set using 2 x 2" Emperador marble with a pencil liner that matched the 12 x 12" marble on the wall. Travertine tiles, again 12 x 12", was used for the floor. The two inch Emperador tiles were used as accents on the corners of the Travertine. For the counter top, we installed a solid slab of Crema Marfil marble. The sinks were under mount on the fixtures and faucets were Grohe in a chrome finish.
I highly recommend JRGI for any remodel or construction project. I initially hired them for a bathroom remodel and then added a project to install recessed lighting throughout the house. They were very professional and had great suggestions for the design and materials. The project was completed timely and there was limited disruption to the rest of the house. They cleaned up and organized the area at the end of each day. The team was friendly, responsive and helpful with a strong customer service focus. The work product quality is excellent and everyone who has seen the bathroom loves it! I obtained 7 quotes and JRGI's proposal was well laid out with sufficient detail to obtain an exact understanding of the scope of work and fees. Their fee was also very competitive. Overall, I was extremely happy with the execution of the projects and the end result and will definitely use them for future projects. -Tania D.
